Gaia Grid
A custom card game where players collect cards in Vana'diel to be used in battle in our mobile game.
Quest Prerequisites
- Level 51+
- Rank 5
Where to Get Started
- Speak with Temoe-Amoe (D-7) in southern Windurst Waters
Where to Collect Cards
After obtaining the Black Book for collecting cards, players can find cards in many locations. Cards will drop from defeating specific monsters and can be found by completing storylines, completing specific battlegrounds, attaining specific achievements, and purchasing from various vendors and stores.
How to Add Cards to a Collection
Cards that are obtained in game can be traded to the Black Book next to Gambit, an elite GAIA GRID player who has a card shop in Aht Urghan Whitegate (H-6).
Where to Play
Gaia Grid can be accessed by selecting it from the main navigation on Gaia XI. Gaia Grid is optimized for playing either on your smartphone or the designated window opened when launching from a computer.
Understanding the Card
Every card has a title unique to a monster or NPC in game.
A number representing the card's overall playability.
Each card will have 4 unique numbers on them, one in each cardinal direction. These numbers represent both their attack and defense in the respective directions.
Specific cards will have an element attributed to their cardinal values, allowing cards to increase their attack or defense in respective plays.
How to Play
Players each begin with 5 cards in their hands. Players will take turns playing a single card on the board in an attempt to flip their opponent's card.
The card actively being played is the attacking card and any card adjacent plays as a defending card. If the attacker's opposing cardinal value is higher than the defending cardinal value, the attacking card flips the defending card. If it is not, no action is made. All battles are North vs South and West vs East.
High Quality cards will have +1 to a random cardinal value and may not exceed A (10).
If an attacking card's element is strong vs the defending card's element, the defending card's cardinal receives -1.
If an attacking card's element is weak vs the defending card's element, the attacking card's cardinal receives -1.
Battle Outcomes
A battle is complete when 9 cards are played. All 10 cards are considered in the scoring of a game. A draw occurs when both players end up with 5 cards.
Forfeiting Battles
Battles that end prematurely are calculated to determine experience points, rating gain/loss and game result.
Player Ratings
Players gain or lose rating when playing any match that rewards experience points. Players with a higher rating than their opponent will gain less rating after a win, but will lose more rating after a loss.
Deck Performance Ranks
When the game rules require it, decks will need to be at or under a specific PR value in order to participate.
High Quality Cards (HQ)
Cards can be randomly acquired as an HQ card after being obtained or after being upgraded. An HQ card is represented by a sparkling background and +1 to a random cardinal direction.
Upgrading Cards
Cards earn experience when played and after they've been played enough, can be upgraded one time to become a high quality card with +1 to a random cardinal direction.
Buying Cards & Packs
Random cards and card packs can be purchased from the Card Shop; new cards are available every day.
Selling Cards
Cards not currently in an active deck can be sold in the Card Shop; value is determined by the card's PR and quality.
Quests
Quests are available for players to earn experience, mangos, cards, packs, and pack slots. The current series of quests are meant to introduce players into the game. More will be added at a later time.
Social Groups
Players can join and create groups in order to communicate with each other outside Vana'diel and outside Discord. Players can also directly challenge other players in their group to a battle.
Gaia Grid is Still a Beta Project
More than anything, I will not claim to have the ability to create a properly functioning game, let alone a perfect one. Please understand that this game will likely have issues and I am continuing to work on it every day. Gaia Grid is meant to be something different, something outside Vana'diel, but still feel like you're a part of the world. As the game grows, changes will be imminent. As with all content, please let me know if something isn't working or doesn't feel right. I don't know what's broken if no one tells me!
